Neath’s Constitutional Club was built between 1884 and 1886 and was opened by Lord Iddersleigh in June 1886. He used the same architect as the Gwyn Hall (which has recently been ravaged by a devastating fire).The original piece of land was owned by Howell Gwyn and formed part of his vast estate. It housed two cottages within an Orchard. Hence the name Orchard Street.Howell Gwyn went on to be the clubs original president. His statue which now forms part of the Victoria Park originally stood outside the Gwyn Hall, pointing at his offices two doors down from the club.It was called the Constitutional Club because Howell was a supporter of Benjamin Disraeli who opposed the corn laws. This eventually split the Conservative Party.Many people talk about its haunted past and there are several spirits roaming it’s bars, restaurant and varied rooms. It is steeped in history and has many a tale to tell.

I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the Live Halloween Radio Broadcast with The Wave's Steve Shaw, Claire Scott and Sean on Wednesday 31st October such a success. A fantastic night was had by all. We will be further updating and uploading photos and a part of the broadcast shortly. I would also like to give a BIG thank you to the Constitutional Club, Orchard Street, Neath, for keeping the venue open so late. Also not forgetting Andrew and all those from the Spiritual Development Class for their invaluable help.
